Member Guide

 We are happy you are looking into becoming a therapy dog team with TCP. 

 We are working with AKC to become a recognized therapy organization.  We are already a non-profit run by volunteers who are out working in the community.

We hope you and your pup will join us on this needed service for the community!

Minimum age 1 year old

 Must have a Canine Good Citizen (CGC) AKC title (better if you CGCA                    and CGCU) If you  don't have title we have evaluators that perform service for you $25 cash. This test shows that dog possess basic obedience skills.

Well-groomed, free of matting and odor.

Fully house trained.

 Enjoy meeting, interacting with people & other animals.

MUST NOT:

Excessively lick or jump on people

Growl or excessively bark at other dogs or people

Have history of aggression/bitting

Minimum of 18 years old--permits junior handlers ages 16-17 if accompanied by an adult approved by the board. Maintain control of canine at all times. (You and dog is being evaluated)

No felony records----must turn in background check at time of evaluation

 Be the primary owner/handler of the canine.  The owner who tests with the canine is the only person permitted to conduct visits for TCP. Exceptions can made on case by case if approved by the board in advance.

Electronic collars, prong collars, and retractable leashes are NOT permitted.

While treats are allowed during TCP visits they are wed NOT allowed during the team evaluation or during group events.

Please fill out application. Email to triplecrownpawsitivity@gmail.com  and mail a check $60 to TCP when completed. We will discuss when the evaluation will take place. At time of evaluation you need to bring background check certified, release of liability, vet application, be ready to take a verbal exam. (First year of membership covers and ID badges. Second  year will be a $45 membership/renewal certification in good standing & 20 volunteer hours.) 72 hours notice or $60 will be donation 2TCP

Once registered as a TCP therapy dog team, your 1st step will be to purchase a canine vest through ActiveDogs which is set up through TCP. You will receive your certificate & ID badges for both you & your dog.

Register on Track It Forward to record volunteer hours. Keep in mind many organizations  and facilities have their own volunteer guidelines, policies, & procedures. Comply with their guidelines.
